Dinosaurs were amazing creatures that inhabited our planet approximately 70 million years ago. Thanks to paleontological research, today we know of over 100 different species of dinosaurs: from incredibly massive creatures to the smallest of animals.
Since the first evidence of dinosaurs was discovered, their fossilized remains have become some of the most important and popular attractions in museums around the world. Their widespread monstrous image has been the key to the success of numerous movies, books, and comics. Exploring Dinosaurs through Coloring
Our journey begins with an image of a cute cartoon Tyrannosaurus rex. Despite its somewhat menacing appearance, just look at its little hands with two fingers. Agree, it’s a bit funny.
Parasaurolophus – not the most well-known dinosaur species, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t exist! The main feature of this lizard’s appearance is the crest at the back of its head, and to this day, scientists have not been able to determine its primary purpose.
The next coloring page features a smiling imaginary dinosaur. Coloring this cute picture can be a great introduction to the amazing world of ancient nature for children.
Let’s return to more realistic images and witness the battle between a huge Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops. It is still unknown whether these two dinosaur species actually clashed with each other, but in pop culture, their battles are a common occurrence.
In the next image, we meet Arlo, the dinosaur from the animated movie “The Good Dinosaur.” In an alternative evolutionary history, dinosaurs do not go extinct and, through evolution, become intelligent beings. Arlo is a cute friendly Diplodocus with a light green color.
The coloring page below is a realistic depiction of a Stegosaurus munching on grass. Using this picture, you can tell your child about what these amazing animals looked like millions of years ago.
Popular Types of Dinosaurs
Just like in any other field, there are the most well-known species among dinosaurs. Most of them are present in our coloring pages, but don’t forget that besides popular Tyrannosaurs, Triceratops, and Velociraptors, there are thousands of other species.
- Tyrannosaurus rex – an aggressive bipedal predator with a massive skull and a long, heavy tail. Tyrannosaurs are some of the largest known dinosaurs, with their body mass reaching 9-10 tons.
- Ankylosaurus – a genus of herbivorous dinosaurs that inhabited our planet approximately 66 million years ago. To this day, archaeologists have not been able to find a complete skeleton of an Ankylosaurus, but its approximate appearance has already been reconstructed.
- Pteranodon – a genus of pterosaurs, which includes the largest flying reptiles. The wingspan of some of its representatives reached 7 meters.
- Triceratops – a genus of herbivorous dinosaurs that inhabited the territory of North America approximately 67 million years ago. The appearance of the Triceratops is quite recognizable and known, as it has a body structure similar to that of a rhinoceros.
- Iguanodon – a fairly well-known genus of herbivorous dinosaurs, some individuals reaching a length of 13 meters. In the front part of the skull of Iguanodons, there was a beak, behind which hid a row of teeth, structurally resembling those of an iguana.
- Stegosaurus – another popular genus of herbivorous dinosaurs, characterized by the presence of spikes along the entire length of the tail and bony plates on the back.
- Velociraptor – a genus of small predatory bipedal dinosaurs. It is believed that although Velociraptor was much smaller than other representatives, it had a number of advanced anatomical features. For example, it was a bipedal feathered carnivore with a long tail, and on the hind part of its foot, it had a sickle-shaped claw, with which it could catch and disembowel prey.
